  • This is Dan providing the final update to this blog.  I am extremely grateful to all of you that have been praying and thinking of me during this tough time, and I must say that you are a big part of why I am doing so well.  I feel just as normal as ever, and it's almost as if nothing ever happened in some respects.  I started work again on Thursday, and it seemed to go very well.  I'm amazed at how close I was to not making it, and yet through God's hand on me I was able to pull through almost as though the emergency had not happened.  Many of the doctors and nurses did not expect this at all, and it will be cool to see how God uses this to touch their lives.  Once again I would like to say thank you to all of you who prayed so much for me, especially those of you whom I don't know personally.  You had no human reason to care so much about me, and your love has really shown me just how amazing God's family really is.  God bless you all as you continue in your service to him.

  • Sunday, June 18 - Father's Day!

Well, Dan was just released from the hospital an hour or so ago.  Turns out he developed an infection because of the strong antibiotics he was taking.  (Sounds contradictory, but it's true.)  He is feeling much better and has been given permission to return to normal activities within a few days.

This is a GOOD Father's Day present - to have the family around the table today.  In this life there are no guarantees we will be together tomorrow, are there?  Have you taken time today to appreciate the family God has given you?

Once again, we are attempting to sign off on this blog.  In a week or so we will provide a final update (assuming there are no more surprises.)  With close to 2000 hits on this site in a ten-day period, we continue to marvel at the power of the internet - and, even more significantly, at the care of the world-wide family of God.

Un abrazo fuerte a todos (a strong hug from us to you),

    Dave and Sue

Well, we had hoped that hospital stays would only be a memory, but circumstances have changed over the last 24 hours.  This morning Dan was readmitted to Lutheran Hospital becuase of a reoccurring fever.  His condition seems stable, but the doctor is wanting to identify the source of infection.  He will remain hospitalized at least until Sunday.

He was a bit discouraged this morning with this turn of events, so we ask that you pray for him both emotionally and physically.  At the same time, we are grateful that he is being closely monitored during the next few days.

Today is Dan (and Jon's) birthday.  While the festivities will need to wait a few days as we begin to recuperate from this past weekend, we all were given the best present we could hope for - DAN IS HOME!

During this week Dan will be mostly confined to the house, and hopes to begin normal activities sometime next week.  Up to this point he is progressing really well.

This will be our last posting.  Once again we all - Dave, Sue, Dan, Jon, Mark and Melisa - thank you for your prayers for Dan!
